The goal is not to make a home “impossible” to enter. It is to remove easy opportunities, improve visibility and detection, and strengthen ordinary household routines.

Reduce easy access

Start with doors, accessible windows, garages, sheds and gates. Repair broken hardware and avoid hiding spare keys in predictable outdoor locations.

Improve visibility

Lighting and sensible landscaping can reduce concealed approach areas. When away, avoid broadcasting that the property is empty.

Layer detection

Depending on the property and budget, alarms, cameras and door or window sensors may add useful detection. They complement—not replace—basic physical security.
